The Kyrgyzstan Trail will take place during the summer months, from mid-July to the end of August 2026. You’ll find all the exact departure dates in the booking calendar.

Get ready to disconnect like never before. This trek through the heart of Kyrgyzstan is much more than a hike: it’s a journey back in time and a chance to discover a rich local culture.
This 7-day trek takes you along the spectacular “Ak-Suu Traverse”, starting in Jyrgalan, an authentic little mountain village. Forget crowded mountain huts and hotels. Along the way, you’ll stay with local families in traditional yurt camps, sharing meals and everyday life with nomadic families.
You’ll travel through an otherworldly landscape of turquoise lakes, hot springs, glacial rivers, towering mountains and canyons carved by rain and wind. Life is everywhere: free-roaming horses, flocks of sheep and herds of cattle. It’s a total immersion in one of the purest and most remote landscapes in the world.

Organising a trek in Kyrgyzstan is a complex logistical challenge, with high altitudes, transfers and remote camps to consider. That’s why we’ve prepared everything for you.
Our itinerary is designed to help you acclimatise gradually to the altitude. Your safety is our priority: our French-speaking and local guides adapt the route to the highly changeable weather, ensuring you have the most memorable adventure possible, whatever happens.

You can always email us for more information about this itinerary, but below you'll find answers to some frequently asked questions.
Embrace a complete digital detox. This trek is all about getting back to basics. At the mountain yurt camps (Days 2 to 7), there is no shower or running water. This is adventure in its purest form! You can, however, cool off in the lakes and rivers.
A practical solution for camping. For your comfort and to protect the environment, every camp has dry toilets in small cabins.
Back to comfort. You’ll have access to showers and modern bathroom facilities in Jyrgalan (Day 1) and at the hotel in Karakol (Day 8). For the rest of the trek, you can also bring a few wet wipes for extra comfort. Just never leave them in nature!
We offer a meal option, which we strongly recommend. It includes all three meals each day, from dinner on Day 1 through breakfast on Day 9 (except dinner on Day 8), prepared by the nomadic families hosting you.
As for water, rivers are everywhere and are generally very clean. Our local guide will know where you can refill your water supply, and there are plenty of springs along the route.
There’s no such thing as zero risk, though, so bring a water filtration system if you want to be 100% sure you won’t get sick.
Respect for animals is an integral part of Kyrgyz nomadic culture. Horses are essential partners for families and are treated with care. Our local providers work with families who consider their horses part of the household. They are fed, looked after and never overloaded. We make sure that only healthy horses are used to transport luggage.
Your safety is our top priority. We work with an experienced local guide and an experienced Travelbase guide who know the terrain and weather conditions inside out. They’re trained in first aid, and we also carry satellite phones for emergencies. We keep groups to a manageable size to ensure better supervision.
Even if you walk at your own pace, there will always be one guide at the front and another at the back to keep the group together.
